Today, Tomorrow and Yesterday: Removing Blight and Moving Forward with an Eye on the Past

This session will focus on the importance of preserving Ohio's history while improving the safety of the urban community. Topics will include Lucas County's rehabilitation and preservation efforts in the community of Toledo, Cincinnati's focus on neighborhood renewal, and Ohio's focus on capturing history for future generations. You may also have the opportunity to see some unique artifacts collected from demolished properties in Northwest Ohio.
Marc Gardner, Ohio Housing Finance Agency
Marc Gardner is a Neighborhood Initiative Program (NIP) Liaison/Administrator with the Ohio Housing Finance Agency in Columbus Ohio. Marc's current responsibilities include site visits to the participating land banks around the state as well as assisting in the administrative functions of both NIP and Save the Dream programs. Prior to working for OHFA, Marc spent over 20 years working in the private financial sector in commercial banking. He attended Columbus Technical Institute majoring in computer science and is a certified network engineer through Babbage Simmel.
David Mann, Lucas County Land Bank
David Mann is the President of the Lucas County Land Bank where he manages a talented staff of 10, an annual budget of $7 million, and property acquisition and disposition of over 1500 parcels of land annually. He is also an accomplished attorney. Like you, he hates long and boring bios.
Lisa Adkins, State Historic Preservation Office
Lisa Adkins works as the Architecture Reviews Manager at the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office, a Division of the Ohio History Connection. A Cleveland native, her undergraduate focus was on American Studies with a B.A. in History and English from Oberlin College. Her graduate study was at Cornell University in a specialty program in Historic Preservation Planning. For more than twenty years, she has worked in West Virginia and Ohio to assist agencies to proactively consider measures to protect historic properties as part of their planning under the National Historic Preservation Act.
Liz Eddy, Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority
In her capacity as Director of Residential Development, Elizabeth Eddy oversees the Redevelopment Authority's multifaceted community partnerships and initiatives that responsibly increase housing options in target neighborhoods through rehabilitation and new construction. She is responsible for the planning, construction and marketing of the agency's successful REACH single-family residential rehab program that has brought new homes to Evanston and Walnut Hills neighborhoods, and is assisting with the expansion of REACH to additional Hamilton County neighborhoods. She also oversees the stabilization of historic properties, primarily through a partnership with the City of Cincinnati. Liz joined the The Port in 2016 from Village Green, where she managed operations for Radius at the Banks, downtown luxury apartment community. At Village Green, Liz helped structure plans and processes that resulted in meeting high project quality standards, construction milestones and financial objectives. In a previous property management position, Liz achieved Certified Sales Consultant designation and was repeatedly recognized for top performance. Liz earned a bachelor's degree from Ohio University. She is actively involved in Give Back Cincinnati and Give Back Cincinnati Abroad. Liz is a member of WE Lead, the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber's leadership development program of Women Excel, Class 12.
Deborah Robb, Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority
Deborah Robb joined The Port in 2004. A long-time housing and neighborhood advocate, Deborah is The Port's program director of the Homesteading and Urban Redevelopment Corporation (HURC), a 501(c)(3) Ohio nonprofit corporation focused on community housing improvement and, in particular, the renovation of homes in low and moderate-income areas. She leads economic inclusion efforts, which are woven into the fabric of every Port project. She serves as the listing and sales agent for all The Port's residential properties. She earned a BA in Communication Arts from the University of Cincinnati, where she was a minority scholarship recipient. She is also a graduate of the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati African American Leadership Development Program (Class III), Leadership Cincinnati, Project Blueprint, and Turner Construction School of Construction Management. Deborah is a 2014 recipient of the Cincinnati Human Relations Commission Merlin G. Pope, Jr. award for leadership in diversity.
